2013 Madness Champion Crowned

Thursday was busy at the DZ Casino, racking up bets on the people's favorite to take this year's Madness crown. Terry King, darling of Team BeatDown, was the popular choice, holding a #2 seed and favored by 1.25 points, the majority of bets fell in her direction. Our underdog this night would be one, Aurast Sasc who, despite having already dispatched two #2 seeds from this year's tournament, found himself with little financial backing. Surely he couldn't take out a third; not even a warlord yet, his #6 seed a gift from the committee. Or was it?
Rekah Silverblades had the call and ushered our finalists into the ring shortly after 10pm. An arena full of Beat Down red and cheering for King, exalted at the lead she took in the 2nd, low cutting the slashing grand master, after having exchanged cuts in the first, to go up 2-1. Perhaps a growing confidence drove her to the quick thrust in the 3rd, where Aurast was swifter with the trap and brought us back to a tie. After a defensive stalemate in the 4th, Aurast took the lead in the 5th with an up parry to deflect another thrust from King. The underdog set the gamblers in the crowd to tears in the 6th when our combatants exchanged cuts once more to move the score to 4-3 and made it unlikely King could cover the spread. There was a break in the action during the 7th as they both looked to sidestep a non-existent threat. In the 8th, King fell victim to the same tactic that brought her victory over Kattria in the semi's. Looking to trap a thrust, she couldn't adjust in time to avoid the cut aimed at her knee.
After 8 rounds, Aurast crushed the hopes of arena gamblers and Beat Down supports alike, winning the 2013 Madness crown by score of 5-3 and becoming the first duelist ranked below warlord to do so. Despite the loss, Miss King had a great run through the tourney and both she and Aurast pick up rights to challenge. Wasting no time, King has already declared herself against Senior Baron Imp. We can only wait in anticipation to see who Aurast will challenge. The only #2 seed from the Madness tournament that he didn't get the opportunity to face and defeat was Matt Simon (coincidentally, also #2 baron in seniority). Will he look to continue the trend by going after Battlefield Park?
Congratulations to our tournament champion, Aurast Sasc, and many thanks to the coordinators and callers that made it happen.
