DoS: Madness
Round One Wrap Up
by Kalamere
March 21, 2017

The fight-in round, somehow, went exactly how it was supposed to. It was only four duels, so lets not give the seeding committee more credit than they deserve just yet. All four of the #8 seeds won out over the #9 seeds though, so advance to face the top duelist in each division.

First up was Andu against Morgan Chae. I would have given MC the edge personally, but Cass is running that division and made the better call. MC drew first blood with a cut, but it was his only lead of the match. Andu unleased an onslought of offense after that with 7 consecutive strikes, landing most of them including the 8th round high cut to take the win.

Ogre #1, Munchem, took on Kane in the first of the Saturday night fights. After being persuaded he was not allowed to eat the elves in attendance (half elves especially!) Muchem took his annoyance out on Kane. Muchem scored in each of the first 5 rounds i a 4.5-1 run. A slight hesitation followed as Kane tried to rally, but then the ogre perfromed a surprisingly adept sidestep in the 8th to seal the 5-3 victory.

The second Saturday match found the guy with the squid mask, Nuy in a close contest against Evangeline Vincent. Nuy went up 3 in the first 3 rouds before Evangeline started to make a comeback. By round 10 they were tied at 4 each! Nuy broke the stalemant with a high parry in the next round though and sidestepped in the 12th to win 5-4.

The final match from round one was Sapphire vs Leviathan. Mini-Jewell was in fine form Monday night, despite giving up the opening point. By round 3 she held the lead and ended up scoring in 7 of the 8 rounds that followed. A final high cut in the 9th round beat Levithan's low parry and won the duel 5-2.

That's a wrap on the fight-in round, moving on to a much more interesting round 2. Thirty-two duelists will square off in 16 duels starting this Thursday in a round that will last 2 weeks and see only half of them advance. Later today, look for point spread announcements so you can throw some silver down on the action!
